people can be so hard to capture

I love the motion blur and color in this shot. The fair can be so fun.
This was a hard shot to get, but turned out alright....I'd love to try this again.
And one of my all time favorite pictures of my son. I feel this really captures him.

  1. In that middle shot, you're doing what is called panning. You take a photo longer than is recommended for the amount of motion in the photo, but you pan at the same speed as the subject. Thus, your little man is in focus and the cars are not. This is often used when taking photos of race cars or moving people (like bike races or running).

  2. The most important thing when panning.....follow through! Don't stop panning until long after the photo is done. This ensures that you don't accidentally stop panning before the photo is done and that you keep an even panning rate. Think of it like in sports. Coaches always tell you to follow through to ensure you get the best swing. Same goes for photography.
