snowflakes

my fist attempt at capturing snowflakes, not as sharp as I would have liked, but a valid attempt none the less. If anyone has any tips I'd love to hear them!!

  1. I know it's a little late for this advice (although who knows, we could get one more quick snowfall before it's gone), but you might be able to use this for next year.

Because you're using macro modes, your depth of field is very narrow, meaning that fewer things are in focus. This can be great to isolate your subject from the background or to separate part of your subject from another part. In order to keep more in focus, you're going to want to use a higher f-stop number. To keep less in focus, you want a lower number.

Post processing can help a lot, and also remember to not blow out highlights (as I've said elsewhere), as snow is pretty much all highlight. A better camera would also drastically help, although I know that's not a luxury that everyone has.

I hope these tips have helped. If you have questions about anything in particular, you can search wikipedia, google, a yahoo group, or email me.
